RICHARD MARTIN REPORTING

At the weekend the Essex U13 boys, parents and coach Paul Allen headed down to Hertfordshire for stage One of county championships. The team of Ollie Green, Joel Braddock, Michael Tallentire, Harry Martin, Zaid Mushtaq and Ryan McCoy were all looking forward to a great day of squash.

Host county Hertfordshire entertained us, Suffolk and Surrey 1. First up were Suffolk and the Essex boys all had a good opening match and swept the floor with 3-0 wins.

BACKS TO THE FUTURE: Our U-13’s going into reverse with coach Paul Allen.

Next up was a strong Surrey 1 team which was the match we all were anticipating. First up was Zaid and Michael. Both boys played their socks off against the Chalk brothers. Michael went down fighting 3-2 and Zaid had a great match but lost 3-1.

Then it was Harry and Ollie’s turn. Harry put everything into the first 2 games against a lad that was twice his size and went  2 love up, but unfortunately then ran out of steam and went down 3-2. Ollie, meanwhile, played well and won a straight forward 3-0 victory. Finally Joel played Tim Lloyd. The two boys had a great match with several sways of momentum in play before unfortunately Joel went down 3-2.

Finally Essex played the Hosts Herefordshire. For this match Ryan was called upon at 5 and Michael rested, Ryan played solid squash and had a convincing 3-0 win. This inspired the other lads to follow Ryan’s display and all went on to have convincing 3-0 wins.

Well done Boys
