Draw delivers tough battles as top seeds are revealed

England Squash has named the top seeds for Essex Junior Open which will be played out on six pristine glass-back courts at the Colchester Garrison, home of the British Army’s 16th Air Assault Brigade, starting today at 9.30am.

The depth of talent looks impressive with players from around the country chasing the spoils at the showpiece event.

253Hampshire’s Robbie Keefe (pictured left ), who finished runner up to James Peach in last month’s Tecnifibre English Junior Championships, is rated number one in the boys’ Under-17’s where he’ll face tough opposition, including two seed Jack Martell from Surrey.

Harry Kitchens (main picture above) from Southend on Sea carrries home hopes with Billericay’s Oliver Green in the under-13’s with Essex team-mate Ellie Hewes ranked one in the girls’ division ahead of Emily Kimber from Sussex. Lotti Taylor-French is three seed and Eleanor White four.

Alice Green, the current English and British U-13 title holder, is ranked two behind Katie Cox of Norfolk in the Under-15 girls while Sophie Wood (Surrey) and Mikayla Mann top the under-11’s. Surrey’s Jordan Warne and Billy Beecroft from Suffolk are one and two in the boys’ Under-15’s.

The Garrison boasts one of the finest sporting facilities in the county and the Essex Junior Open marks the first high-level squash event to be held there. Action starts at 9.30 on Saturday and Sunday. Entrance to spectators is free.

HOW TO GET THERE

The Cpl Budd VC Gymnasium does not appear on google maps (top secret!!), the easiest way to the site is to find the junction of B1026 Layer Road, Berechurch Hall Road and Gosbecks Road (postcode CO2 9JY)
From this junction take Berechurch Hall Road and follow for approximately half a mile, then take the left turn Berechurch Road (there is a closed down pub opposite the junction).
Follow Berechurch Road, pass the rugby pitches on the right and the next entrance on the right is the Cpl Budd Gymnasium.
