Record number of Essex players ranked by England

by | Apr 5, 2016

A RECORD 96 junior players from Essex are featured in this month’s England Squash rankings.

It is a major coup for the county which is becoming one of the strongest junior forces in the UK and is being lauded as a successful blueprint by other counties around the British Isles.

Essex can boast no fewer that 10 top 20 players in the various age groups with Yusuf Shekh (U-11) and Alice Green (U-15) sitting proudly in NUMBER ONE positions.

It has been a remarkable 24 months for Essex Junior Squash which has seen our county programme go from strength to strength. The introduction of our grass-roots Grand Prix programmes, county trials and training, Inter-County reserve teams plus our full Inter-County teams shining on the national stage sees the Essex flag flying high.

PROUD: Essex Jnr Squash Chairman David Harris

And it is something the Essex Junior Committee believe they can build on in the future. Chairman David Harris commented:” We are all pretty proud of  what our young players are already achieving, and we know there is a whole lot more to come.

“With almost 100 Essex players in the England Squash rankings, it shows we have strength in depth and that our programme of giving more and more children the opportunity of top-level coaching, competitions and bursaries is beginning to bear fruit.

“We are blessed with a vibrant and hard-working team of volunteers as well as some fantastic county coaches. Having people like Lauren and Paul Selby, Paul Allen, Dave Webster, Chris Chitty and Vignas Gunasegaran heading up our coaching programme is fantastic.”
