This season’s Miles Smith Essex Junior Squash Grand Prix series kicked-off at Woodford Wells Squash Club.
49 players entered our first Grand Prix of the season, a record number of entries for the first event of the year. 12 debutants to the series showed the format of our event goes from strength to strength as we continue to provide individual competition as close to the format of England squash events as possible.
In the girls year 4 & under Grace Woodhead in her first season took the honours for the first time whilst in the girls year 6 & under Isabella Johns pipped last years Year 4 champion Rebecca Salmon to first place with another graduate year 4 player, Grace Boore, finishing 3rd.
The girl’s year 8 competition saw the return of a number of regulars to the series as well as first time player Prabhneek Atwal. Taking top spot, Felicity Halim pushed Ruby Hester into 2nd with Eleonore Dewey taking 3rd.
In the boy’s year 4 & under the players were separated into two groups playing best of 5. In Group A, Matthew Sutton took the honours finishing undefeated, second was Noah Smith with Cullen Clark finishing third. In Group B Tristan Sutton made it a family double taking the honours with Anish Patchipulusu finishing second and Udham Kingra taking bronze on his debut in the series.
Boys year 6 & under group again saw two groups playing with Group A being dominated by George Woodhead with Louis Brown taking second and Matthew Yip, third. Group B, featuring 4 debutants to the series was won by Mark Kapinos. The other 2 podium places were taken by newbie’s to the series with Jonty Godfrey second and Uzair Sheikh third.
Boys year 8 & under featured the largest group of the series so far with 3 groups. In Group A, Luca Batley dominated taking top spot from Arjan Kingra and Luke Weaver. In Group B, debutant Faizan Ahmad took the honours with Aidan Clifford in second and Tommy Lyons in third. In Group C, made up of 6 debutants, Mustafa Suleman dominated with Arturo Wilson and Oli Prideaux filing the podium.
In the boy’s year 10 group, Archie Hassett continued his good form from last season by taking top spot with Thomas Nankivell second and debutant Muaaz Mansoor third.

Grand Prix 2 heads to Lexden on 28th October where a bumper entry is expected. We look forward to welcoming you all to Colchester.
