England made it seven team titles in a row as they beat France in the final to be crowned as champion in Kriens, Switzerland at the U19 European Squash Championships team event.

Countries enter teams of three players to represent them in the championships with two boys and one girl. In each round of the competition, teams face each other in a best of three singles matches contest.

The team, consisting of Patrick Rooney, James Peach, Kyle Finch, Amelia Henley and Gina Kennedy justified their top seed, progressing through the tournament without dropping a match.

England topped Pool A, beating Spain, Israel, Slovenia and Slovakia before conquering the Czech Republic in the quarter-final and Wales in the semi-final, all without dropping a game.

In the final they came up against a very strong French side, prevailing 2-0 in a pair of highly competitive matches.

Essex’s Lee Drew, the England Performance coach, commented: “The final was a great spectacle, especially the boy’s no.1 string. It’s been a great week for the England juniors and we’re incredibly proud to retain the team and individual titles.”
