MEET THE COACH: Kerry Munn felt she had a tough job filling the boots of popular Club Kingswood coach Pete Goodings when he left these shores to ply his squash coaching trade in Canada.
Pete was a large character with an impressive playing CV under his belt. Replacing him was always going to be a tough ask.
But three years down the line, the change of guard at the seven-court club near Basildon could not have gone better for Kerry, who has added a new level of confidence to her undoubted ability and is taking the club’s junior development programme to new levels.
Kerry explains:” I admit, taking over from Pete was a tough ask and I sometimes questioned whether I was the right person to take on the challenge. The early days tested my resolve but the support of the management team at Club Kingswood members helped me take on the challenge and stamp my own mark on the club.”
Club Kingswood’s coaching set-up is flourishing, and the steady stream of junior players is encouraging.
Kerry runs a Saturday afternoon group junior session where young players are able to practice their racket skills, shots, technique, tactics and join in fun games.
Qualified coaches are always in attendance. The cost is £5 per week, no booking is necessary and all equipment is provided. Just ensure your junior has non-marking court shoes.
