Josh Perkins, who trains at Colchester club Ardeligh Hall, was celebrating victory at the Gloucester Junior Open Silver event at the weekend after winning the boys’ Under-13 event.
The 11-year-old, who has one-to-one with coaching with top Essex coach Lee Drew as well as Suffolk’s Joey Kemp at Ipswich, was in impressive form as he carved his way through the tournament dropping only one game and eventually beating runner up Marcus Traner for Oxon 3-0 in the final.. It was a notable scalp for Josh, representing Suffolk, cementing his position as one of the country’s most exciting young prospects.
Essex’s Ellie Hewes (pictured right) was in highly competitive company in the girls’ under-13’s but continued her impressive run of form finishing in third position. She lost to eventual winner Rosie Kirsch from Warwickshire who beat Margot Prow 3-2 from Middlesex in the final.
Will Southworth, only just 17, competed against some of the best Under-19’s in the country and acquitted himself impressively finishing a creditable 12th.
Meanwhile, Essex lads Tim ‘Streaky’ Bacon and Ollie Green were in action at the Allam Humber Junior Open Silver event at Hull. Playing in the Under-13’s, both boys delivered performances against tough opposition that highlighted their continued rise in the ranks. Streaky finished fourth and Ollie fifth prompting him to Tweet:Came 5th in the Hull Silver event. My best Silver result ever. #GreatSquash
