Last weekend the 2018/19 Miles Smith Essex Junior Squash Grand Prix series moved to The Connaught Squash Club for round 3 of 8.
58 players entered our third Grand Prix of the season. Another eight debutants to the series proved the format of our event goes from strength to strength as we continue to provide individual competition as close to the format of England squash events within the county.
In the girls year 4 & under Grace Woodhead (left) in her first season took the honours again whilst in girl’s year 6&U debutant Cyra Khan proved to be the class as she wrapped up the group win with GP2 winner Isabella Johns second and Rebecca Salmon third.
The girl’s year 8 Group B proved to be a very competitive affair this time round. Taking top spot, Eleonore Dewey pushed Eliza Hancock into 2nd with the ever improving Prabhneek Atwal taking 3rd.
In the Girls year 10 group, debutants Imogen Fennell-White and Sophie Hartwell push our rising start Sophie Foskett all the way. SophieF finished top, with SophieH second and Imogen third.
In the boy’s year 4 & under, seven players battled for supremacy with Matthew Sutton continuing his dominance of the group. Noah Smith finished second with Matthew’s brother Tristan finishing third for a family double medal.
Boys year 6 & under group saw three groups playing with Group A being dominated by Louis Brown continuing where he left off after GP2, Matthew Yip took second with Alec Lyons third. Group B was one by Dylan Smithson playing only his second GP with Jonty Godfrey second and Oliver Mayhew-Gay third. Group C contained three debutants with one of those, Matthew McCoy taking gold. Second was William Barringer-Allen returning to the series with Kyle Hudson third.
Boys year 8 & under featured the largest number of entrants again. In Group A, Luca Batley again proved the dominant force taking top spot from George Woodhead with Arjan Kingra third.
In Group B, Matthew Salmon showed a good return to form as he swept all before him, second was Tommy Lyons and third Luke Weaver. In Group C, which included 3 debutants, Jason Lane took first place with Fraser Wallace second and Elliot Lyle third.
In the boy’s year 10 group, seven players played out the group with two debutants from Fusion Juniors in the Price brothers. The Hart brothers proved to be the class act this weekend as Thomas Hart finished the day with six wins from six whilst Oliver came in second with five wins. Third was current series leader Archie Hassett.

Grand Prix 4 sees a change of venue with the competition moving from Essex University to Lexden on 16th December. This is purely a logistical move due to the numbers now involved. We look forward to seeing you all in December.
