Essex Junior Open delivers on promise of super squash weekend

by | Mar 8, 2016

The Essex Junior Open promised and delivered a veritable feast of quality squash at the weekend cementing its position as the county’s number one event.

With another record-breaking entry, the action on six courts at The Garrison in Colchester was non-stop over two days of full-on action for the event, sponsored again by our favourite London law firm, EC3 /Legal

Superbly run by Karen Selby, David Harris and Lauren Selby, and ably supported by the Essex Junior Squash Committee plus a brilliantl team of helpers, the event ran like clockwork producing trophy winners from an amazing EIGHT different counties.

Harry Kitchens (U-15) and Joe Blackmur (U-17) flew the flag for Essex both producing exceptional squash as they won their age groups. Harry, from Southend, was a veritable ball of energy as he marched through the early rounds before using his considerable array of shots in the final to take down Edward Wheeler from Cambridgeshire 3-0.

Kingswood’s Joe faced Essex team-mate Conor Adams in a fascinating final with both players producing high quality squash. Conor led 1-0 and 2-1 thanks to a combination of intelligent play and remarkable athleticism. But Joe held his nerve, took the 4th 11-8 and finished a tough weekend’s work winning the 5th 11-6.
