Last weekend, the 2018/19 Miles Smith Essex Junior Squash Grand Prix series moved to Colchester Garrison for round 6 of 8.
The event saw the debut of 10 new players from Kingswood, Brentwood, OTWS, Fusion, Ipswich, Lexden and Felsted. 57 players playing, 120 matches and one very busy day again! In the girls year 4 & under Grace Woodhead took the honours again whilst in girl’s year 6&U current series leader Isabella Johns reasserted her dominance on the group by taking the win. Second was Rebecca Salmon.
In Group B, making her debut, Georgia Harvey took the honours with our second debutant Lola Walsh taking second. The girl’s year 8 Group B proved to be a very competitive affair as always with Eleonore Dewey taking top spot from debutant Rebecca Morley second and the ever improving Prabhneek Atwal taking 3rd. In the boy’s year 4 & under,12 players were here to do battle this weekend. In Group A, Matthew Sutton continued his dominance of the group by taking first place with Cullen Clark getting among the Sutton brothers by taking 2nd place. In 3rd place was Tristan Sutton. In Group B, Dominic Bowden in only his second GP took the honours with Kylen Calder backing up his debut second place with another. Harrison Young finished third for the second GP running.

MATTHEW YIP
The Boys year 6 & under group saw two groups playing with Group A being dominated by Matthew Yip for his first Group win of the season. Second place went to the ever improving Freddie Welsford-Knightley and third to Jonty Godfrey. In Group B the returning Ben Spurgeon snatched the group win from Luca Sayer by winning their winner takes all match. Third place was taken by Alex Demetriou-Foale, his first GP of the season.
Boys year 8 & under featured the largest number of entrants again. With Arjan Kingra missing due to a dislocated shoulder Group A was dominated by Oren Goddard who took 5 wins out of 5 for his first ever Group A win. Finishing in third place was series regular Aidan Clifford. In Group B the ever improving Jack Howell took the honours with 4 wins out of 4, with local Thomas Owen taking second and Elliott Lyle third.
In Group C, Harrison Mussett took the honours with a dominant performance with Ellis Sooprayen second and Debutant Bobby Williams third. In the boy’s year 10 group, another hard fought group saw current series leader Trystan Fleming take the honours ahead of Joe Ludlow-Gibbons and Dominic Batchelor third.
I would like to thank all parents and players for your continue support of the premier Essex Junior Grand Prix series A big thank you to The Colonel and Colchester Garrison and all their staff for making us welcome. Grand Prix 7 takes us to Fusion Sports Centre in Hockley, Essex for the first time in 4 years. Six courts and a lovely coffee shop, always important for the parents!
