Essex junior girls gunning for revenge against Lloyd’s

by | Sep 15, 2017

REVENGE will be the order of the day on October 23rd when nine top Essex junior girls go head-to-head against the city slickers from Lloyd’s Squash Club in London.

The two teams faced off last year in an intriguing £500 winner takes all squash challenge aimed at raising funds for Essex Junior Squash. Unfortunately, the plan went slightly awry when Lloyd’s pulled off a deserved 6-3 victory. However, the event was such a success it did help us secure a season-long sponsorship deal with those brilliant people at Miles Smith Insurance Group. And, keep it quiet, I have it on good authority that Lloyd’s never got round to cashing their winner’s cheque. Good chaps.

Essex Junior Squash Chairman Matthew White and Simon Engelen, a senior underwriter at MS Amlin in the Marine & Aviation department who plays and helps run the Lloyd’s team, reckon last year was such a hit they want a second showdown next month.

Said Matthew:” Everyone loved last year’s event so we simply had to go again. Our Under-17 girls put up a strong challenge but had to bow to Lloyd’s on that occasion. The score was 6-3 to them but all our girls are a year older and stronger. Let’s see what happens this time. It will be huge fun come what may.”

The match is during half-term on Monday October 23th at the Thomson Reuters Building, 1 Paul Lulius Close, London E14 2EH. The action begins at 5.30pm through to 9pm.
