Egyptians dominate world squash awards

The annual World Squash Awards were presented after the semi-finals of the Allam British Open in the Airco Arena , as follows:

Women’s Young Player of the Year: nominees Nouran Gohar, Habiba Mohamed, winner Amanda Sobhy.

Men’s Young Player of the Year:  nominees Diego Elias, Mazen Hesham, winnerFares Dessouki

Women’s Player of the Year: nominees Nicol David, Nour El Tayeb, winner Raneem El Welily

Men’s Player of the Year: Nominees Nick Matthew, Miguel Rodriguez, winner Ramy Ashour

Lifetime Achievement Award: Peter Marshall

Ashour twice returned from injury to defeat World No.1 Mohamed Elshorbagy in breath-taking finals during the course of the 2014-15 season. “It’s an honour and a pleasure to be nominated and selected as the Men’s Player of the Year,“ said Ashour in a video message from the US.

WINNERS: Raneem El Welily, Peter Marshall and Fares Dessouki

El Welily, who capped a breakthrough year in which she finished runner-up in the 2014 Women’s Worlds by winning the Tournament of Champions and the 2015 Windy City Open.“I’m very, very happy to win this award,” said El Welily. “It’s been a great year and I’ve achieved so much that I didn’t think that I would.”
