A rattling good night at Canary Wharf last week when the girls from Essex Junior Squash took on a team from Lloyds of London Squash in a 9-a-side showdown.
With the small matter of a £500 side bet to make things interesting, the action was fast and furious with no quarter asked or given.
Despite a valiant effort by the the girls, the spoils went to Lloyds 6-3 with their big-hitters proving a tad too tough. But they knew they had been in a battle and are already making noises about a return match next year.
The evening was capped by a convivial gathering in the bar afterwards. Soft stuff for the kids, crushed grapes and fermented hops for the cheerleaders plus a delightful spread.
Huge thanks to committee member Matthew Whitefrom our long-term sponsors EC3-Legal for dreaming up and organising the match and chairman David Harris for blagging (sourcing) the courts at the hugely impressive Reuters Building in Docklands and running the show. As ever, our head coach Lauren Selby was there cajoling, supporting and delivering pearls of coaching wisdom.
Great effort, everyone. We’ll take ’em next year.
