MEET THE COACH: Look in the dictionary for the word ‘DEDICATED’ and chances are there will be a reference there to Chris Chitty. And if there isn’t, there should be.
Chris is one of Essex Junior Squash’s leading coaches and has long been our ‘go-to’ person when we are planning our Inter-County teams and coaching programmes. Alongside head coach Lauren Selby, Chris has helped shape, guide and formulate our successful girls’ squads which have become the envy of many counties around the country.
A level 2 coach since 1998, Chris is club coach at Harwich Sports Centre where she has been running weekly classes for adults and children since day one. And if her full-time job as manager of the centre does not keep her busy enough, she also runs a successful adult racketball league which began in 1995 and is still going strong.
Says Chris:” I first got the squash bug playing at Redbridge Sports Centre when I lived in Ilford back in the late 80’s. I became involved with Essex Junior Squash when my two sons started playing county standard back in the day and then got involved with the Essex girls’ teams and have helped coach and attend various fixtures with all age categories.
“I love working alongside Lauren Selby who shares my passion for all sport and squash in particular. It’s my hope that one day we lead an Essex team to a national title. We’ve been close and I know we can go all the way one day.”
