North Essex Primary School Squash
Lexden Cup 2017 Round 1 & 2
The first two rounds of the Lexden Cup have seen some exciting squash, with eight school teams battling it out on court for the top two spots, and with it qualification for the Essex School Games to be held on 19th January 2018.
Mersea A team took an early lead in round 1 with a clean sheet of wins and Mersea B close behind with their only loss being to Mersea A. Stanway A looking strong and sitting only four points behind and in strong contention. Langenhoe A in fourth position ten points ahead of Tiptree (last year’s winners and current holders of the Lexden Year 5/6 cup). Langenhoe and Stanway B teams sitting in 6th and 7th, but with some teams having played a different number of games at the end of round one the positions don’t necessarily reflect performance at this point.
Round two got off to a start with the inclusion of a late entry from Elmstead School, their matches played as friendlies as due to the late entry they would be unable to complete all the matches in the remaining two rounds. Mersea A again looking strong and stretching their lead with their team mates following just behind. Stanway A keeping hold of third place with Tiptree and Stanway B starting to climb the table as the number of games played evened out.
The final round with it all to play for is Friday 8th December where the final placed teams’ play-off for final positions and the trophy. Some good play and sportsmanship was witnessed across the schools and some new exciting prospects for the future of the sport.
