THERE were some notable performances by Essex players at last weekend’s Ipswich Junior Open Silver event at Ipswich Squash Club and Martlesham Leisure Club.

Reports praised the excellent organisation of the popular event and our players certainly flourished at the three-day England Squash sanctioned tournament.

She went through the tournament without dropping a game and conceded only 40 points in the process. Essex’s Piper Tatum finished runner-up in the U-17 plate event just losing to Phoebe Colman. In the boys’ U-17, Kingswood’s Joe Blackmur was seventh.

Lexden’s Joel Braddock sealed his best ever U-13 silver event taking third spot. An impressive performance by Joel who took down Tate Harms in the 3-4 play-off while his only defeat came at the hands of number one seed Ben Harrison. Connaught’s Zaid Mushtaq won the plate event.

The U-15 girls’ event saw an all Essex line-up in the plate final. It was a terrific battle between Elli Barrott and Amy Aspinall with Elli taking it in the fifth 11-8. Dedham’s Ellie Hewes finished eighth in the main draw.
