Ellie and Ben grab spoils at Norfolk Junior Open

Ellie Hewes was back on the winners’ podium this weekend, seven days after she was crowned Essex Under-13 Open Champ.

The 11-year-old Colchester girl, who plays at Ardleigh Hall, stepped up another age group to compete in the Norfolk Junior Open Under-15’s and blew away the opposition collecting more silverware.

In a round-robin format, Ellie successfully overcame players two years her senior including eventual runner-up Casey Miller from Cambridge and Cassie Green from Bucks who finished third. Both matches ended in Ellie’s favour 2-1..
ben richardsonAnd there was more Essex success in the Boy’s Under-15’s as Ardleigh’s Ben Richardson (pictured left) emerged as the winner. There were nine boys in the age group playing in three groups of three. Ben played Oliver Millar and Ross Curtis in his first box, winning 2-0 and 2-1 respectively. He then played the Ledger twins who had won their boxes. He beat Owen 2-1 and Jay 2-0 finishing overall winner.
Amy Aspinall, Elli Barrott and Harry Kitchens flew the Essex colours in the Under-13’s with Amy and Harry finishing as runners up and Elli securing third spot.. The trio impressed at the Essex Junior Open and maintained their fine form at the East Anglia Tennis and Squash Club in Norwich.
Mikayla Mann and Libby Connor finished 3rd and 4th in Girls’ Under-11’s. Mikayla’s continued improvement has been massively encouraging while Libby’s impressive performance in only her second tournament is a huge boost to the Essex junior ranks.
