England Squash allow girls to compete in inter-county boys’ comps

by | Nov 5, 2016

Following a large number of requests, girls aged under 19 in all age groups are now permitted to compete in Inter-County boys’ competitions with immediate effect.

This ground-breaking decision by England Squash is based upon years of feedback from players, coaches and captains, and supports our commitment to developing girls squash and breaking down the barriers to play.

This change in policy provides a more inclusive competitive pathway for all players and is closely aligned to our new performance programme which is based upon ability, not gender.

This move enables counties to

  • field the strongest possible team in the boys event
  • girls to represent their county where this is currently no girls team
  • counties to field a full team

So what does this mean for boys wishing to play in girls competitions or women wishing to play in men’s? Any team captains wishing to consider boys for selection in the girls’ competition can request dispensation by contacting our competitions team. At a senior level, we are yet to collate our findings in respect of whether to extend the age at which men and women can play in mixed teams, but in the meantime, all requests will be considered on a case by case basis.
