Congratulations to Lauren Selby on being name Participation Driver of the Year at the prestigious 2016 Polar Squash Workforce Awards at a special ceremony staged by England Squash during the Allam British Open in Hull last night.
Lauren, who heads up the Off The Walls Squash Academy coaching team in Colchester and is a key figure within the Essex Junior Squash coaching team, was commended for her work at grassroots level, particularly within schools where she has helped introduce several thousand school children to the game of squash.
Lauren was unable to attend the award ceremony. Typically, her coaching commitments meant there was no time available to travel north and in true Oscar night tradition had a suitable stand-in nominated to collect the trophy.
Well done, Lauren. A true inspiration and deserved winner.
The awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding commitment and contribution of the squash workforce in making squash happen. Spanning seven categories from Young Coach of the Year to National Volunteer of the Year, more than 300 nominations were received for the awards.
Presented on the show court inside the Airco Arena, nine individuals were crowned:
Wendy Danzey – Referee of the Year
John Shears – National Volunteer of the Year
Finn Holliday – Young Coach of the Year
Jason Pike – Club Coach of the Year
Danny Massaro and David Pearson – Elite Coach of the Year
Lauren Selby – Participation Driver of the Year
