Dear All,
Summer is almost here and hopefully exams are almost over!
We have just a couple of squash events before the end of the season:

19th July – Summer Family Fun – this event is a fun tournament for the whole family, any age, any ability, as long as you can serve and have an understanding of the rules you can play! Lexden Squash Club 10am – 2pm ish! Please complete the attached form to enter.
The Family Fun tournament will be raising funds for CRY Cardiac Risk in the Young and if you have heard me waffling on about this before and have had your child/young person tested then I apologise but if you haven’t heard or haven’t acted please, please do so:
Every week in the UK at least 12 young people (usually fit sports enthusiasts) die of undiagnosed heart conditions, these can very often be detected and treated.
In recent years 2 young squash players in England have died from ‘Young Sudden Cardiac Death’ . (Harry Faulkner aged 18 a County player from Hertfordshire died on court and Neil Desai a Surrey County player died in his sleep.)
Screening is generally free, it is available for boys and girls aged between 14 and 35, it is painless, non invasive and takes 10 -15 minutes.
We are currently looking into a screening of our own but we would need a large venue, + 100 participants @ £35 per head. In the meantime I will let you know of any local screenings, further information can be found on the CRY website http://www.c-r-y.org.uk/
Please don’t ignore this, Italy have been screening all junior sports competitors for the last 20 years and as a result reduced their sudden death rates by 90%! I will mention this again and again, I made all 3 of my children (adults) go for screening please make sure you do too!
England Squash has confirmed that the Essex Junior Closed is 26 & 27th September, please put this in your diary, further details to follow when we have them. Players will be expected to take part in the event in order to be eligible to represent Essex.
Finally Off The Wall Squash are running a FREE Ladies squash morning on 28th June for Mum’s / Ladies it is not for the elite but is aimed at beginner and improver players. Rackets provided no kids allowed.
Hope to see you soon and please let me know if you require any further details about any of the events about.
Kind regards
