REPORT BY RICHARD MARTIN
The Broadland Squash club in Norfolk was invaded by Essex players last week with the county being represented by Josh Stinson, Travis Tatum, Tom Bird, Haydon Smith and Charlie Martin in the U17s while Harry Martin and Max Chilver put in challenges in the Under-13’s.
Max produced some excellent squash and is progressing nicely as a squash player, Harry, meanwhile, won all his matches including the the final against Oliver Ramsey 2-0.
The U17s was dominated by Essex Players although they came up against tough opposition in the shape of Robert Thirst and Sam MucCluskey from Norfolk and Kian Howard from Suffolk.
Tom, Josh and Travis all played well with Tom finishing 5th, Travis 6th and Josh 7th . Charlie and Haydon both played well and met each other in the final.
In what proved to be a tense match, the ‘best mates’went into match mode producing some gripping squash. The match could have gone either way with Haydon putting in some cross court nicks and Charlie replying with good kill shots. It went to the wire with Charlie just edging it 2-1.
Essex was also well represented in the girls’ event and Piper-Rose Tatum (left) continued her great run of form collecting her fourth trophy in as many weeks.
She came runner up in the round-robin event with quite a quick turn around in games. Piper beat India Webb 2-1, just lost out to Margot Prow 2-1 then went on to beat Elli Barrott and Amy Aspinall 2/0.
Another great week for Team Essex.
