Ellie Hewes headed the field at the Allam Humber Junior Silver event in Hull on Sunday fulfilling her number-one seeding winning the girls’ Under-13 title.
Ellie, a regular member of the Essex Under-15 team despite being aged just 12, was up against tidy opposition at the University of Hull, including the fast emerging Yorkshire player, Amber Copley.
Lexden’s Joel Braddock also competed at the Humber U-13 event finishing a creditable fourth. His only defeats were to the one and two seeds with Joel’s performance against top seed Matt Harrison being voted by many the match of the day. He lost that one 3-1 but it was close and competitive. Only one let in four tight games told another storm. Brilliant, honest and intelligent squash.
Further south, Essex threesome Elise Lazarus, Alice Green and Ollie Green competed in the Gloucester Silver event producing some terrific performances. Elise and Alice both fell to eventual U-17 winner Jasmine Hutton from Sussex, an England player who is clearly going places.
The Essex girls were both pipped 3-2 by Jasmine, a much older and more experienced player who used her greater experience to good effect. Elise was beaten in the final and finished second. Alice was third.
Ollie, meanwhile, finished third in the boys’ Under-13’s.
