LEXDEN’S Aaron Allpress took out number one seed and reigning champion Hayden Tetley on the way to the final of last weekend’s London Road Junior Open at Leicester Squash Club.
Aaron, who will be 16 later this month, looked impressive in the early rounds as he removed Owen Bailey 3-0 and Joe Sibley 3-1. That pitched him against Northants’ Tetley, a player he had previously failed to take a game from. Aaron put that record straight as he won a tight semi-final 3-2.
He then faced another player who had never surrendered a game to the Essex U-17 player, Ellior Ridge from Yorkshire. Ridge is England ranked 13 with Aaron at 18, but there was little between the two as they went toe-to-toe in an enthralling final. Ridge nicked it 3-1 but Aaron can take plenty of heart and confidence away from the event which was another marker in his continued rise.
