Essex Squash girls’ under-15’s have a crack at the biggest prize in English Inter-Counties competition at the weekend when they fly the county flag at the National finals in Pontefract in Yorkshire.
The seven-girl squad of Alice Green, Ellie Hewes, Elise Lazarus, Paige McEvoy, Piper Tatum, India Webb and Eleanor White have stormed through the preliminary rounds to book their place in the final shoot-out.
Essex start hot favourites in their semi-final against Hampshire on Saturday and are expected to meet a strong Yorkshire team in the final on Sunday.
“Our girls finished third last season but we have improved dramatically over the past 12 months and are much more confident,” said County Coach Lauren Selby.
“Yorkshire are a good side, but so are we,” added Lauren. “Our team is packed with experience and we couldn’t be better prepared. We have reached the finals without losing a tie so we have nothing to be afraid of.”
Meanwhile, the county’s boys’ Under-13 squad of Ollie Green, Joel Braddock, Ryan McCoy, Michael Tallentire, Harry Martin and Travis Tatum compete in the Inter-Counties Trophy at Abingdon in Oxfordshire.
