Which were your Essex Junior Club/s? | Park Drive & Off The Wall |
Who was your junior coach? | I learnt the most at Off the Wall from Paul, Lauren, Emily and Amy, but Essex Junior Squash provided lots of support from Jake, Dave and many others. Early in my squash life at Park Drive it was Terry, Sean and Richard. |
Current Club/s | Oxford Brooks University, who play in the BUCS Midland League Division 1, after having been promoted last year. |
University? | Oxford Brooks, studying Architecture |
Highest Junior Ranking? | Top 50 in my age group (England Junior Squash rankings) |
Did you ever play in the Essex Junior Closed and if so, what was your best result? | Yes, for many years. My best result was 2nd in 2023. My worst result was in my very first year when I didn’t win a single game, never mind match. |
Did you ever play in any inter county teams, if so, what was your best memory? | Yes, several times. My best memory was in 2024 when Essex was second in the Girls under 19’s. We even made the local papers! |
Who is your favourite player to play? | Imogen Finken, who also plays for Essex and at Off the Wall. |
Who is your nemesis? | I don’t really have one. |
What skill would you want from someone else? | How to perfect figure of eight volleys on the front wall. |
Favourite pre match scran (food)? | Porridge first thing and then bananas during the day. |
Top tip for future players | Don’t beat yourself up over your last shot if it was a bad one. Have fun! |
What skill are you working on most this year? | Drop shot consistency. |
How do you prepare for a match? | Warm up by practicing with friends, if you can. Skipping if you can’t. Try to relax and chat with friends to take you mind off things. |
Who coaches you now? | Jason Varrie at Oxford Brooks University. |
When you are not playing squash, what do you like to do? | Sailing or spending time with friends. |
If you didn’t play squash, what other sport do you think you may have taken up? | I already sail dingeys and run. I’ve entered the Oxford half marathon in October. I would like to try rowing as this is a big sport at Oxford Brooks (there isn’t much sailing in Oxford!). |
