Colchester Sixth Form College Squash Team take Bronze at National Schools Finals

by | Apr 8, 2022

Essex players Joel Braddock, Stan Sykes, Lara Newton, Trystan Fleming and Oli Harris, representing Colchester Sixth Form College, cruised through rounds one and two of the National Schools Key Stage 5 boys’ tournaments, round one held at home on November 18th at Lexden Rackets and Fitness Club, followed up a three months later in Kings School, Canterbury on February 9th.

These convincing wins saw them through to the National Finals in Nottingham Squash Club on 25th March, taking with them traveling coach for the occasion, Neil Cross.

The newly acquired team shirts generously sponsored by WR Squared (wrsquared.co.uk) saw the team drawn with Erskine Stewart’s Melville Schools (ESMS) from Scotland in round one, games played best of three as everyone had to play three matches on the day, the team battling hard to take a 3-2 victory and setting them up for a semi final appearance.

The semi finals against Wycliffe college again produced another tough battle, with Wycliffe taking a position in the final ever so narrowly 3-2 by the tightest of margins.

Moving to the three/four play-offs, Colchester Sixth Form College again produced a winning performance taking the bronze medal home with a 3-2 win over Wilson’s School from Surrey.

Well done team and coach alike.
