WHAT THE PAPERS SAY

Essex Junior Open making the headlines around the county

Good to see Essex’s finest newspapers giving a fair amount of space to our young squash heroes.

The Colchester Gazette devoted a third of a page to the Essex Junior Open on Wednesday with a headline lauding the titles won by Ellie Hewes and Harry Martin. They also gave mention to the success of Lexden foursome Joel Braddock, Harry Martin, Mikey Tallentire and Max Hyde who finished runners-up at last Saturday’s Under-11 Inter-County Champions at the National Squash Centre in Manchester on Saturday.

The Gazette are great supporters of squash and regularly carry articles promoting the sport. Keep checking them out and let them know you appreciate the coverage should you bump into one of their reporters or fancy dropping them a line.

Over in Basildon and Billericay, The Echo were equally generous in finding some space for the exploits of siblings Alice and Oliver Green. You’ll remember that Team Green bagged two county titles, Alice winning the Under-15’s and Oliver the Under-13’s. We have no idea what the headline means referring to maiden titles (both players have a shed load of awards) but we’ll forgive the sub-editors and give thanks for the coverage.

The Colchester media this week focussed their attention on Ellie Hewes. Her achievements this season have been chronicled here on Essex Junior Squash.com and it’s good to see them repeated in the print media.
