Grand Prix Series gets off to a flyer at Kingswood

by | Dec 1, 2014

Essex Junior Squash launched its new Grand Prix Series for Development players on Sunday with the aim of providing competition for the next generation of young players.

Aimed at youngsters who have yet to wear county colours, the Grand Prix competition will be staged over six months at five different venues with points from each event counting towards an overall total. It kicked off at Club Kingswood in Basildon on Sunday with players in school groups Year 6 to Year 10 pitting their talents against one another,

If the levels of intensity and competitiveness are a marker, then the future of Essex Squash is in good hands such was the enthusiasm shown on court,

The girls’ competition,  featuring Libby Connor, Rosie Mortimer, Brooke Smith and Alice Lindsay (pictured above) produced some amazing squash with all four girls already showing a competitive spirit above their years. Alice, from Club Kingswood, was the stronger player on the day but it’s clear that the others are improving fast.

Charlie Broad (Year 6 and under) and Adrian Dibattista (Year 10 and under) were also victorious for Club Kingswood. They were joined in the winners’ circle by Ben Long from Brentwood School who finished top of the Year 8 and under group.
