Essex Under-15 champion Alice Green has been selected for an Active Essex Inspired Athlete award for the second year running.

The Billericay schoolgirl, who also made her England squash debut in Ireland last season, received the special Bronze Award and a cheque for £500 as recognition for her achievements over the past 12 months and also as an incentive to do even more.

“This really is an honour,” said Alice, who will be captain of the Essex U-15 girls’ Inter-County squad this weekend. “I’m thrilled with the award and the money will really help towards paying for the cost of coaching, travelling to events and equipment.”

Alice will now become an Active Essex Ambassador to help inspire other children to take up sport. She will attend various sporting events where she will talk about what she has achieved and how other kids can follow in her footsteps.

Her mum, Jo McGowan added:” Alice is really looking forward to telling others all about squash and what a great game it is. Active Essex has been great recognising the efforts and success that she has achieved. The money is really helpful too. It will go towards tournament fees, coaching, personal training and shoes. She plans to play in some internationals this season, including the French Open in February, so it really helps. Last year we travelled several thousand miles to tournaments up and down the country and to and from training.”

Alice’s potential and recent successes have also caught the attention of top racket company Head and clothing manufacturer IproSports and both companies are now sponsoring the Club Kingswood player.
